Hope 1.0 is an autonomous, self-mobile robot designed to paint a surface. The self-positioning robot can navigate the interior or exterior of a structure, and can automatically apply paint or other coating to the interior or exterior of that structure, with little or no human intervention or assistance. The robot navigates and applies paint using its hardware, software and sensors. Hope Robotics patent pending.

Currently two basic processes exist for painting something.  The first system, which is automated, uses an immovable painting robot to apply paint to a surface, like a new car.  Where the car is moved in front of the robot and painted.  This process suffers several drawbacks, including being unable to paint anything that is not placed directly in front of the robot, such as a building across town.

The second process is a manual one, which is typically used to paint rooms, walls, ceilings and structures. This manual process involves a human hand on a ladder painting a wall or ceiling using a brush and/or rollers.  Manual painting has the drawbacks of being slow, messy, toxic, dangerous, repetitive and expensive, where 80% of the cost is labor.

Imagine a new process that is free of this slow, messy, toxic, dangerous, repetitive and expensive manual process. Replaced with a mobile automated process that is cheaper, higher in quality, safer and more flexible.
